First Time Shooting

I can now mark 'go to a gun range' off of the list! Eeeek!

A few weeks ago, Garrett and I purchased a Glock 26 for home protection. Well, you see, my husband has known how to shoot a gun since he was 8 y|o. I, on the other hand, had never even held a gun before. G's been teaching me safety, techniques and basic knowledge for a few months now.

We decided it was time to finally test it out. On a whim, we headed over to Shooters World this afternoon. It's a huge indoor range about 20 minutes from our house. I was ready. We filled out our registration forms, bought some ammo and put on our ear muffs. Well, as soon as we reached our stall and started setting up, I had a mini freak out session. Guess I wasn't as prepared as I thought.

Yes, I knew what I was doing. I knew how to load it, how to hold it, how it all works, etc. I just didn't know what to expect. What would the recoil feel like? Would the shell hit me in the head? Haha. All these questions tumbled around my mind while gun shots rang in my ears. It was a lot to take in, but I chose to step up. I pushed back the fear, picked up the gun, aimed the best that I could and pulled the trigger. And there it was. I then knew what to expect and you know what? It really wasn't all that bad!

I can honestly say that I love shooting now and the taboo is finally gone. Garrett and I are planning on becoming members so that we can go regularly. Can't wait to go back and try out different guns! Also, I have to thank my hubby. He was extremely patient with me while I had my meltdown.
