P is for Pumpkins (and Panera)

Well, this happened yesterday. Garrett and I went on a quest to find a pumpkin. With 3 days until Halloween, I was sure there wouldn't be any nice ones left. I was wrong. There were big ones, small ones, fat and skinny. Row after row of bright orange resting on wooden pallets. There aren't any real "patches" around us (none that I know of at least), so we tend to stick with this huge Catholic church down the street that sells them every year.

Does anyone else find it funny that churches sell pumpkins for Halloween? I guess it just boils down to my beliefs. I've never celebrated the "holiday", but I won't go into all the reasons why we choose not to. That's another post for another day! The only reason we buy pumpkins? So I can make fresh pumpkin pies and roasted pumpkin seeds ;)

We stopped to grab some lunch at Panera. Nothin' like a pumpkin spice latte, broccoli cheddar soup and half a turkey bacon bravo to make your tummy happy. After we had our fill, we headed to the pumpkin "patch" and I managed to pick one of the biggest pumpkins there. Gonna be making lots of pies in the weeks to come with that big ol' thing!

Date Night in a Jar

About a month ago, I decided to create a date night jar for the mister and myself. I had been meaning to post it, but I suck at keeping up with this whole blogging thing the majority of the time (haha). It was pretty simple to make. I mean, how hard is it to grab a mason jar, find some jumbo popsicle sticks and a few markers? I chose 3 different colors (blue, pink, green) to paint the tips of the sticks. Each color represents a price range.

Blue = Moderately priced outings
(bowling, sushi, coffee shop, picnic)

Pink = activities we can do at home
(chinese food, movie night, stargazing)

Green = Pricier and requires planning
(weekend away, theme park, camping)

I hate to admit it, but we haven't used it as much as we should. It's currently collecting dust on a desk in our bedroom. I do, however, plan to use it more in the weeks to come. G and I are still trying to find that balance between saving money and wasting spending it. I have a hard time letting go of it (especially when work is slow). Garrett is more of a spender, but he has cut back tons. Needless to say, we need to work on planning fun date nights so we can get out and live a little!

How do you and your significant other plan dates?

The Weight of Worry

It's a crisp fall morning. Sunlight dances through the windows. Birds sing their praises up to heaven. A cup of coffee sits, steaming, by my side. And in this moment, right here, right now, I am incredibly thankful. Thankful for the season that I am in, even if it has been a trying one. Thankful for the family I get to love on each day. Thankful to live in such a beautiful place, a place that I often take for granted. Thankful for the furry children that rely on me to keep them safe.

My heart is feeling a little overwhelmed this Friday morning. For the past week I've been dealing with a crazy amount of unease about the future and what's to come. This fear of uncertainty has been troubling my mind. But today? No, today is different. I can only feel one thing, pure gratitude. God has me in His hands so I really shouldn't worry.

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about
itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
- Matthew 6:34

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink;
or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more
than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?"
- Matthew 6:25-27

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this
is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus."
- 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Don't let the worries and problems of this world burden you, friends. Worrying only robs us of the joy that we could be experiencing every single day. It steals our peace and creates an array of imaginary situations in our minds. All of those "what if" scenarios can really weigh you down! Cast all your cares upon the Lord. He knows everything that you're going through. He knows what you need and when you'll need it. Rely on Him. Trust in Him. Be content where He has you.

Feelin' the Blue + Girls Night

Well, it finally happened. Yesterday afternoon, my Mom and I decided to tackle painting the dining room. After months of staring at faded wallpaper and a gallon of blue paint collecting dust on the floor, it was time. Each stroke of paint covered up years of outdated floral designs. We left the wallpaper underneath because ain't nobody got time for ripping it out. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out though. I can't seem to keep my eyes off of this area of the house now. There are just a few more  places to touch-up and it'll be done.

I had a few friends over for dinner last night. Bowls of spicy chili, funny games, glasses of moscato + caramel apple mixed drinks, s'mores around the fire pit and lots of laughter (of course). It wasn't as cold outside as I had hoped it would be. But, then again, this is Florida. I won't hold my breath for cold weather, because obviously I would die. Despite that, it was really fun. I should start hosting girls nights at our place more often.

Taking the First Step (Again)

Today I took the first step (again). The step towards a healthier and happier version of myself. In the past I've given up, I've given in, and I've quit more times than I'd like to admit. Today I decided that was all going to change. One of my best friends, Amanda, came over this morning to go running with me. Since the Upper Tampa Bay trail runs along the front part of our property, we took full advantage. The weather couldn't have been more perfect. We ran, jogged, walked and did lunges. It was hard since I'm so out of shape and I'm surprised a lasted as long I did. I just assumed I'd end up dying in the process, but thankfully that didn't happen. Haha. Getting back in shape is easier when you have a friend by your side. We're planning on meeting up 2-3x a week to exercise and I'm really looking forward to it.

Say Hello to Fritz

I decided to add a new pet to our tribe yesterday. He's not furry like our other babies. His name is Fritz and he's a twin tail halfmoon betta. I've had my share of Siamese fighting fish over the years, so setting up his new home was a breeze. I used a 1 gallon glass jar with a lid to house the little guy. Don't worry, we made sure to poke a hole in the lid for air. He seems to like it and I like him. It's a total win-win situation.
