It Was More About the Promise

He was nineteen and so was she, the night he asked her to be his forever. It was a whirlwind romance, one that swept them both up and tossed them about like the raging sea. Two teenagers who were deeply in love. Two teenagers that were completely in awe of one another. Two teenagers who were ready to conquer the world together.

The emotions were raw, the promise real. After only 4 months of dating, he felt that the time was right. He had prodded and planned and thought for weeks. But, that night, that night in early April was the one he had chosen. He mustered up the courage and asked her hand in marriage (in the most unlikely of ways, might I add).

Okay, enough of that. If you haven't caught on by now, I'm sharing our engagement story. It's certainly not one that would be shared in a fairy tale book, but it was perfect to me. It's a funny story, really. The way he proposed to me that night. It wasn't fancy, nor romantic, but I'll always treasure the memory. We were at home, getting ready to read our Bibles and I got up to grab something. Whenever I returned, there was a packet of Taco Bell hot sauce laying on mine.

My first reaction was what the heck is going on, until I started to examine the little packet. It read WILL YOU MARRY ME? in big letters. Everything was kind of a blur after that. All I could manage to say was "are you serious?" over and over and over again as he got down on one knee, spilled his heart out and asked me to be his bride. Then came the big, cheesy grin and a huge YES (all while my parents smiled and clapped with excitement).

They knew he was going to ask me that night. Wish they would have given me a heads up, though I'm guessing that would've ruined it. I was in my sweats, no make-up on and my hair was a hot mess. But, I wouldn't have had it any other way. Because, when it came down to it, it was more about the promise and less about how it was presented to me. I'll never forget it and that's what matters most. I had my guy and he had me, and in that moment, that's all I cared about.

  1. So sweet! So unique and just suited to you guys. I love stories like that!

  2. I love it!! I love hearing engagement stories though. :)
